Tour description

Tanner Moor

Liebenau, Austria

The Tannermoor is the highest raised forest bog in Austria and one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the Mühlviertel region. Formed after the last Ice Age around 12,000 years ago, this unique moorland stretches across an altitude of more than 930 meters above sea level, surrounded by untouched forests, tranquil waters, and fascinating wetland scenery. The underground structure of Weinsberg granite, interspersed with fine-grained gangue granite, created water-impermeable depressions where the moor was able to develop over thousands of years to a depth of up to 10 meters. Today, the Tannermoor offers an extraordinary landscape of dark moor lakes, mystical forest trails, and rare plant species, immersing visitors in an almost magical atmosphere. The hike through the Tannermoor combines nature, tranquility, and history in a truly unique way. Wooden pathways and scenic trails guide visitors through a landscape that has remained almost untouched for millennia. Especially captivating are the reflections of the sky on the calm waters and the peaceful atmosphere that make this remarkable place a true natural gem.
